What will I learn in this course?
Well...this:

To study Media Literacy is to ask how and why our communication makes us who we are; to explore the relationship between community values and cultural content, and consider how our communication tools frame our relationships with each other.
In this course, you will explore various forms of media throughout history, and study the ways in which power and influence play out in each of these media forms and the societies they served. From this, you will learn:
-
to interpret media messages in a variety of media, from writing and speech to audio/visual and new digital media
-
to develop a greater awareness of how these messages influence our beliefs and our behavior
-
to evaluate, select, and apply media which best communicate a given idea to a particular audience
-
to predict the capabilities, effect, and influence of new media tools and types as they emerge
In short: this course will teach you all the skills you need to be able to participate fully and effectively in 21st century society - not just as a consumer of media, but as a producer and participant. What you choose to do with those skills, of course, is up to you!
